Stream Walk Community Garden, Whitstable

Dates:  Sunday 8th September 2019

Times: 10 am - 1 pm

Details: yeing workshop- with Becky Richards. Dyeing with plants. This is a hands on workshop where participants will “mordant” their provided woollen yarn with rhubarb leaves or vinegar, dye the yarn with plants from the garden and modify the colour with a choice of different liquids. Each participant will take home 2 small 15g hanks of yarn they have dyed. Bring one pair of rubber gloves. Additional plant-dyed yarn will be for sale. Cost: £10.

Times: 10 am - 12 pm

Details: Harvesting the goods from the Garden – with Becky Richards. Preserving workshop, guidance on extending the growing season with how to make jam and pickles etc. Cost: £10.

Times: 10 am - 2 pm

Details: Weave your own wicker bird feeder-This workshop is led by Becky Richards using willow from the garden and beyond. You can create something beautiful to take home and/ or we invite you to make something for the community garden. Cost: £10.

 

Stream Walk Community Garden, Whitstable

Dates:  Saturday 28th September 2019

Times: 10 am - 12.30 pm and 1.30 - 4 pm

Details: Carving green wood into a spoon day- with woodworker Martin Rutherford. Come along to the morning or afternoon session which shall guide you in the practice of spoon carving. Martin has been carving for many years and currently runs some sessions at the garden every Thursday. Come and enjoy the tranquillity of the Bodgers hut in the garden, whilst whittling and learning to use tools safely, and designing and working towards making a sexy spoon! Cost: £10 per workshop.

Dates:  Saturday 28th September 2019

Times: 10 am - 1 pm

Details: Introduction to Permaculture - with Steve Matthews. Permaculture is an integrated approach to designing healthy, productive, wildlife friendly places. The ethics and design principles can be applied to every area of your life and are being used in many countries to design thriving communities and systems. In this introductory course you’ll learn the essentials of permaculture and be inspired by some of the ways it is being used around the world. Cost £7 (£5 concessions).

Dates:  Sunday 13th October 2019

Times: 10 am - 1 pm

Details: Basics in Growing - with Becky Richards. This workshop will cover sowing seeds, taking hard wood cuttings, preparing the soil for vegetables, planting out and basic gardening know-how. Becky has been gardening for most of her life, is a keen allotment holder and is instrumental to the setting up and managing of the Stream Walk Community Garden. Cost: £10

 

Numbers are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment. We would ask that you commit to attending when you apply for a place and that if you are unable to attend you let us know in good time so that we can make the opportunity available for someone else. Thank you.
